Complex Feeding and Nutrition Clinic

Provided by BC Children's Hospital (BCCH)

Provides consultative services to children with complex feeding issues.
The clinic provides consultative services, including medical management, nutrition counseling and feeding therapy, to children with complex feeding and nutritional issues that are difficult to manage.

The clinic offers outpatient-based consultative services, short-term or ongoing nutrition counseling and feeding therapy to eligible children with complex feeding and nutrition needs that have not responded to ongoing treatment or are difficult to manage by local community supports. The team consists of an occupational therapist, a dietitian, a social worker, and a nurse. When appropriate, we may also offer medical management.

The clinic sees children who are or have the potential to be orally fed and who require support from an OT and an RD for the following feeding and nutrition challenges: poor growth, oral / bottle aversion, oral motor skill deficits, weaning enteral nutrition, transition from enteral nutrition to oral intake, and prevention of enteral nutrition. Children whose feeding difficulties are complicated by GI issues. At this time, the clinic does not accept referrals for children whose feeding and nutrition issues are predominantly related to sensory issues (ex: autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing disorder) or to mental health issues (ex: ARFID, trauma / PTSD).
